Ruby Fitzsimons’ art practice primarily interrogates the dissonance and forms of alienation that comprise contemporary Irish Culture and methods of overcoming them. After growing up in the mountains, Fitzsimons is compelled by our interdependent entanglement with other life forms, and the complications of this dynamic. Her daily commute from mountain to City Center, by electric bike, has resulted in her fascination with the tension between ‘the natural’ and ‘the artificial’, and cultivated her instincts to mediate artistic research through environments; visually, sonically and socially.
She graduated in 2024 from NCAD’s Sculpture Department, where her artistic scope developed to involve itself with anything that can occur in space and time, but particularly; moving image, culture jamming, ephemeral aesthetics, site specific interventions and sculpture.
Her work has been supported by the Art’s Council ‘Agility Award’, Dun Laorighe Rathdown’s ‘Emerging Artist Bursary’ and was Awarded the Digital Media Graduate Residency at Fire Station Artist’ Studios.
